SINOSSI
In un remoto villaggio dell’India, la siccità ha cancellato ogni speranza. Secondo l’antico rituale, sarà una divinità a scegliere un bambino in cui incarnarsi, per riportare la pioggia e salvare la terra. Quando il nome del piccolo viene pronunciato tra tamburi e incenso, la comunità si stringe attorno a lui, colma di fede e attese. Ma cosa succede se quel bambino non vuole essere Dio?
SYNOPSIS
In a remote village in India, the drought has erased all hope.
According to an ancient ritual, a deity is to choose a child to embody, in order to bring back the rain and save the land. When the boy’s name is pronounced amid drums and incense, the community gathers around him, filled with faith and expectation. But what happens when that child doesn’t want to be God?
BIOGRAFIA DEI REGISTI
Stefano Spolti è un giovane filmmaker italiano. Nato e cresciuto nella provincia di Bergamo, deve la sua visione artistica proprio alla provincia stessa: al suo essere ovunque e, allo stesso tempo, in nessun luogo. Si è laureato in Filosofia alla Statale di Milano e in Cinema all’Università IULM. Attualmente esplora le possibilità del mezzo cinematografico, cercando di catturare al suo interno tutta la realtà in cui si imbatte.
Feliciana Rosa, sceneggiatrice e regista, si è laureata in Televisione, Cinema e New Media all’Università IULM di Milano. Nel suo lavoro, parole e immagini si uniscono per dare forma a uno sguardo che esplora la fragilità umana e il tempo in cui viviamo. “God Will Not Be There” è il suo primo cortometraggio, del quale ha curato anche il processo produttivo. Attraverso il cinema, cerca una ragione condivisa per raccontare la realtà, donando a ogni storia – vicina o lontana – l’emozione di un primo sguardo.
DIRECTORS BIOGRAPHY
Stefano Spolti is a young Italian filmmaker. Born and raised in the
province of Bergamo, he owes his vision precisely to the province itself- its being everywhere, yet simultaneously nowhere. Graduated in Philosophy at the Università Statale di Milano and in Cinema at IULM university. He is currently exploring the possibilities of the cinematic medium while attempting to capture within it all the reality he stumbles upon.
Feliciana Rosa, writer and director, is graduated in Television, Cinema and New Media at IULM University in Milan. In her work, words and images come together to shape a gaze that explores human fragility and the times we live in. “God Will Not Be There” is her first short film, in which she was also involved in the production process. Through cinema, she seeks a shared reason to tell reality, giving each story – near or distant – the emotion of a first glance.
NOTE DI REGIA
“God Will Not Be There” è una favola che prende le mosse da un problema urgente – la siccità e il cambiamento climatico – ma che presto affonda le sue radici in ciò che è realmente: un racconto senza tempo, in cui i personaggi si muovono come sospesi in uno spazio e in un tempo indefiniti. La nostra ricerca, tra volti e colline, è stata guidata dal desiderio di catturare l’impressione che l’India lascia sempre dentro di noi: l’imprevedibile, l’insolito e l’inaspettato come regola stessa che rimodella l’intera ideologia visiva di chi guarda. Per questo motivo, il film tenta anche – attraverso il suo linguaggio – di conciliare mondi, temi e possibilità differenti. In questo senso, si tratta di una favola ibrida, macchiata di molte sfumature, proprio come i volti dei giovani protagonisti che la abitano.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
“God Will Not Be There” is a fable that begins with a pressing issue – drought and climate change – but soon takes root in what it truly is: a timeless tale, where characters move as if suspended in an undefined space and time. Our search, among faces and hills, was to capture the impression that India always leaves us with: the unpredictable, the unusual, the unexpected as the very rule that reshapes one’s entire visual ideology. For this reason, the film also attempts – through its language – to reconcile different worlds, themes, and possibilities. In this sense, it is a hybrid fable, stained with many hues, much like the faces of the young protagonists who inhabit it.
