SINOSSI
Yahya, un giovane in sedia a rotelle proveniente da un quartiere emarginato della capitale della Tunisia, sogna di attraversare il Mediterraneo. Mentre fa i conti con la propria realtà, un incontro insolito e trasformativo lo spinge su un nuovo percorso. Raccontato attraverso il rotoscopio e l’animazione 3D, The Bird’s Placebo è una favola moderna che esplora la migrazione, la cultura giovanile e la fluidità dell’identità.
SYNOPSIS
Yahya, a young man in a wheelchair from a marginalized neighborhood in Tunisia’s capital, dreams of crossing the Mediterranean. As he grapples with his reality, a strange and transformative encounter sets him on a new path. The Bird’s Placebo, told through rotoscope and 3D animation, is a modern fable exploring migration, youth culture, and the fluidity of identity.
BIOGRAFIA DEL REGISTA
Rami Jarboui è un filmmaker tunisino, nato nel 1990, che ha sviluppato una passione per la narrazione fin da giovane. Dopo aver studiato Multimedia all’ISAMM di Tunisi, il suo cortometraggio Soup ha vinto il Grand Prix International al Mobile Film Festival di Parigi nel 2017. Da allora ha diretto diversi cortometraggi di finzione selezionati in festival internazionali in tutto il mondo. Il suo lavoro unisce il realismo documentaristico a forme poetiche e sperimentali, affrontando temi complessi attraverso un linguaggio visivo forte. Il suo progetto attuale, The Salt of the South, è un documentario creativo che esplora il degrado ecologico e la resistenza nel sud della Tunisia. Il progetto ha già ottenuto riconoscimenti internazionali, tra cui l’Unifrance Doc Award per la miglior coproduzione francese al CPH:DOX Forum 2025 di Copenaghen.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
Rami Jarboui is a Tunisian filmmaker, born in 1990, who developed a passion for storytelling at an early age. After studying Multimedia at ISAMM in Tunis, his short film ‘Soup’ won the Grand Prix International at the Mobile Film Festival in Paris in 2017. Since then, he has directed several short fiction films that have been selected for international festivals around the world. His work blends documentary realism with poetic and experimental forms, engaging with complex themes through strong visual language. His current project, ‘The Salt of the South’, is a creative documentary exploring ecological degradation and resistance in southern Tunisia. The project has already received international recognition, including the Unifrance Doc Award for Best French Coproduction at CPH:DOX Forum 2025 in Copenhagen.

Con The Bird’s Placebo, continuo a esplorare la fragilità e la resilienza della condizione umana attraverso una lente surreale e poetica. Questo film, come i miei lavori precedenti, si concentra sulla lotta personale di un individuo che riflette tensioni sociali più ampie. Sono attratto dalle assurdità della vita quotidiana e le uso per affrontare questioni serie in modo disarmante e stimolante. La scelta dell’animazione in rotoscopio non è stata puramente estetica, ma una necessità: offre la libertà espressiva e la profondità emotiva di cui ho bisogno per raccontare questa storia. Questa forma ibrida mi permette di sfumare il confine tra realtà e immaginazione, spingendo il pubblico a riflettere su cosa significhi portare fardelli invisibili in un mondo che spesso si gira dall’altra parte.

With The Bird’s Placebo, I continue to explore the fragility and resilience of the human condition through a surreal and poetic lens. This film, like my previous work, focuses on an individual’s personal struggle that mirrors broader societal tensions. I am drawn to the absurdities of daily life and use them to address serious issues in a way that is both disarming and thought-provoking. The choice of rotoscope animation was not merely aesthetic, but a necessity- it offers the expressive freedom and emotional depth I need to tell this story. This hybrid form allows me to blur the line between reality and imagination, pushing the audience to reflect on what it means to carry invisible burdens in a world that often looks away.
