In una remota piantagione di cacao nell’Africa occidentale, i bambini lavorano in silenzio sotto una costante minaccia. Tra loro ci sono i fratelli Alita e Bunker, legati da un profondo affetto ma costretti al silenzio. SYNOPSIS
On a remote cocoa plantation in West Africa, children work in silence under constant fear. Among them are siblings Alita and Bunker, bound by love but forbidden to speak. As their lives unfold, their story reveals a larger cycle shaped by a global industry where low prices fuel exploitation and child labor. Years later, Bunker becomes part of the same system that once destroyed him, as memories of Alita resurface. Remote Farms explores how silence, survival, and trauma are passed on within an invisible global economy.

Remote Farms è nato da una domanda che mi porto dentro da anni: cosa succede a un bambino che sopravvive allo sfruttamento, e cosa deve diventare quel bambino per poter sopravvivere? Piuttosto che spiegare il sistema che si cela dietro al lavoro minorile, ho scelto di rimanere vicino alla memoria, al silenzio e alle sue conseguenze. Il film si sviluppa attorno a frammenti, momenti che si rifiutano di svanire, perché il trauma è raramente lineare e la sopravvivenza comporta spesso un costo che si paga molto tempo dopo.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
Remote Farms was born from a question that has stayed with me for years: what happens to a child who survives exploitation, and what must that child become in order to survive? Rather than explain the system behind child labor, I chose to stay close to memory, silence, and consequence. The film is shaped around fragments, moments that refuse to disappear, because trauma is rarely linear, and survival often carries a cost that is paid much later. I was drawn to the relationship between Alita and Bunker because it reflects a quiet tragedy: love that cannot protect, and escape that does not mean freedom. The film does not aim to expose a hidden truth, but to live within one, exploring the uneasy inheritance carried by those who grow up inside violence they never chose to enter.
